"communist country" & "
Growing up, all I knew about communism was that it was the direct opposite of America, and some vague images of people queueing to buy bread and toilet paper. I think I somehow built the idea that communism was a system without money: When you were hungry, you were fed. When there was work to do, you did it. When you were tired, you slept."
:)) No no..lol

As someone who has studied a foreign language in depth (French) and has picked up at various times a strong and a weaker further language, and also as someone who has good competence in 3 programming languages and reasonable knowledge of a further three or four I can honestly say that I have no interest in C++ :)

What I meant to say was: it's certainly my experience that knowledge of a different language, be it human or computer, provides a different viewpoint on situations. I think in my case it's important that I formally studied one foreign language and one computer language; that theoretical grounding gives you a great leg up when coming to other languages.

On an unrelated note, I think many young vietnamese find speaking in English puts them in a different context by removing them from the Confucian pecking order that's bound up in the language. Now I think that's quite a different viewpoint to have. On the other side while many vietnamese-speaking europeans do enter into the confucian game to some extent there seems to be a lot of leeway given to be apart from the system.

If you want a real communism experience here, you're 20 years too late! We abandoned the ideology and planned economy in the early 90s. If you really want to know what it looked like before that, just googling for "thời bao cấp" (fully subsidized period).

Nowadays communism only existed in the colourful but monotonous propaganda billboards and banners on the streets that no one bother to read. They taught Scientific Communism at all of the State run universities but no student and even lecturer take it seriously.

I can't seem to find my modified code any more, but the original lzhuf.c I used appears to have come in a file called c_lz.zip which Google just offered me several links for.

I don't think it'd take long for a C programmer to follow my directions above, but we are looking at three and a half years ago, so I don't remember any useful details beyond that. >_<
